The Brick Dragons and the Las Vegas RatPack met at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix for the 2015 KRFL title. Las Vegas had beaten Brick in the regular season 30-3 in the regular season, holding Matt Ryan to a total of 78 net passing yards and a 50.5 QB rating. But as we all know, if the playoffs what happened during the regular season goes right out the window.
Vegas wins the toss and defers. Brick promptly goes on a time consuming march down the field, halted only at the LV 22 after taking off 9:12 off the clock. A Josh Brown FG makes it 3-0 Brick. The RatPack goes on a long march themselves after taking the ensuing kickoff, using 6:10 to go down to the Brick 13 where Shaun Suisham kicks a 35 yarder to make it 3-3 early in the 2nd quarter. Brick then again goes on yet another long drive, moving down to the LV 4 before the RatPack defense stiffens and forces a short Brown FG for a 6-3 Brick lead. The ensuing kickoff finds Las Vegas with terrible field position, staring at their own 8 yard line after an illegal block penalty on the return. Aaron Rodgers marches the RatPack down the field, mixing passes and runs masterfully, and stud RB DeMarco Murray totes the leather in from the 6 yard line after an 11 play, 92 yard drive that uses 5:59. RatPack leads at the half 10-6.
In the 3rd quarter Las Vegas receives and does a quick 3 and out, losing 13 yards in the process and punts to the Dragons. The Dragons return the favor and go 3 and out, punting to the RatPack, who takes over at their own 40. 11 plays later DeMarco Murray scores for the 2nd time on the day, this time on a 3 yard plunge to give the RatPack a 17-6 lead with 6:28 left in the 3rd. Brick takes the kickoff, but once again goes 3 and out as the Las Vegas defense stiffens and force the Dragons to punt. Las Vegas then goes 73 yards in 7 plays on a march that consumes 418, capped off by an Aaron Rodgers to Zach Ertz 11 yard TD strike. The extra point gives the RatPack some breathing room and a 24-6 lead after 3 quarters.
Brick starts off the 4th quarter by moving down to the LV 17 behind the clutch running of Alfred Morris. The Brick drive bogs down there as Ryan failed to connect on two pass attempts and the Dragons had to settle for a 35 yard Josh Brown FG. LV still up 24-9 with plenty of time left in the 4th quarter. The RatPack recovers the onside kick, and behind some tough running by Murray and a great catch and run by Julian Edelman resulting in the 31 yard gain, moves down to the Brick 11 where Suisham kicks a 29 yard FG to make the score 27-9 with 4:05 remaining. After returning the ensuing kickoff Brick moves swiftly down the field to the LV 22 in only 1:50 behind clutch passing by Matt Ryan. There, on 3rd and 10, Matt Ryan hits #3rd WR Preston Parker over the middle for an 11 yard gain and an apparent first down with 2:15 remaining, but the ball is jarred loose by Darrelle Revis on a bone crushing hit. Kyle Williams recovers for the RatPack and the champagne starts getting uncorked. The RatPack runs 3 dive plays with DeMarco Murray, using as much of the clock as possible before punting. Brick receives the punt, and concedes the game by having Alfred Morris run twice up the middle. The clock expires, and the Las Vegas RatPack are the 2015 KRFL World Champions!
DeMarco Murray gets the MVP trophy for the game, toting the ball 27 times for 117 Yards and two TD’s, although a strong case could be made for Aaron Rodgers as well. Rodgers finished 17 of 24 for 229 yards and one TD. Julian Edelman garbed 7 passes for 118 yards to lead the receivers. The RatPack D was terrific as they have been all season, holding Matt Rain to 138 net passing yards. Connor Barwin had 7 tackles and a sack, while Chris Culliver (7 tackles), Darius Butler and the aforementioned Mr. Revis all had forced fumbles. Alfred Morris paced the Dragons with 124 rushing yards on 25 carries, while Sammy Watkins caught 9 balls for 72 yards. Matt Ryan went 17 of 29 for 148 yards.
