Current Rule 7.1 – In-Season trading is allowed between the opening of the season and the trade deadline set by the NFL, currently week 8.
Proposal: 7.1 - In-Season trading is not allowed
Explanation: As people have mentioned in my previous post, the simplest way to make sure these lopsided trades don't happen is to eliminate in-season trading. There are a few reasons for this...
1) The current system is setup so there is no incentive to win, but there is an incentive to get something back for your stud players who are at the end of their contracts. An example I have cited is a 10 rated player getting traded for a 4th round pick.
2) Our in-season trades are unrealistic. It is extremely rare for stud players to be traded mid-season. It just doesn't happen like it happens here.
I am against this. I am in this league as much for the fun of being a general manager of a team and managing salaries and a roster as being a game coach.
It seems we have two alternatives - 1) eliminate in-season trading altogether or 2) reduce the in-season salary cap. I think both proposals should be made. The second is a half-step solution that would be moot if the first also passes.
Opposed to eliminating trades. Would agree with reducing the in-season cap to $83M. Would also propose trading be limited to a 2 or 4-week period prior to Week 6 once season begins
